Chlamydias

Chlamydias are intracellular parasites of animals. They lack peptidoglycan completely and are therefore gram-negative. Chlamydias affect hundreds of thousands of people every year and Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common STD in the US. It leads to pelvic inflammatory disease and scarring of the uterus and fallopian tubes and can result in infertility. This same Chlamydia can cause eye infections and eventual blindness.
